Do I shell out for coming all the way to Jamshedpur from my pocket?

 

The II Sleeper two-way travel expenses of the participants of the pre-registered events invited to come down on campus will be reimbursed. The shortest route between the participant’s institute and Jamshedpur will be considered for reimbursement. Participants will be required to present a copy of their tickets to avail the reimbursement. In case one decides to fly to Jamshedpur, she/he will have to present a copy of the ticket/ boarding pass. 

 

Where is Jamshedpur? And how do I get there?

 

Jamshedpur is in East India in the state of Jharkhand. It is about 4 hours from Kolkata by rail. It lies on the Mumbai-Howrah rail route. Air Deccan also sends a couple of planes from Kolkata to Jamshedpur daily.

No. We will do our best to help you have a wonderful time here on campus. There will be a lot of spot-events of all kinds all along for you all. We can also suggest a few places around here worth visiting.

 

Where do I get updates on Ensemble?

 

We will manage to reach your mailboxes quite frequently. The updates will be available <here> on the website. You can also watch the blog . And while you are at it, join the Orkut community Ensemble 2008.

 

Can I participate in more than one event? How many students can participate from one college?

 

You are welcome to participate in as many events as you wish. Everybody can participate in an event unless the event specifies otherwise.

When exactly is Ensemble?

 

 Various events are being launched since 27th December, 2007. All the events and a lot more will culminate into Ensemble on 25th January and 26th January at XLRI, Jamshedpur. The details are available <here>

 

Can corporates participate in Ensemble?

 

No. We have decided to let them work in peace.

How to reach Jamshedpur

 

  • Air: There is an airport at Sonari, mostly used by corporate airplanes and for gliding lessons. It is home to Jamshedpur Flying Club and Alchemist Aviation (formerly Toubro Aviation (a DGCA approved flight training school), as well. The closest commercial airports are Ranchi and Kolkata. Jamshedpur is connected to Kolkata by Air Deccan flight DN585/DN586. This flight was started on 27th August 2007.

  • Rail: Tatanagar (Jamshedpur) is an important railway junction on the South Eastern Railway and is connected directly to all the major cities of India, viz., Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Patna, Raipur,Ranchi etc. The railway station is known as Tatanagar.

  • Road: Jamshedpur is connected by road with most of the major cities in India. National Highway 33 (NH33) touches the city and joins the NH2, which connects Kolkata with Delhi. Regular bus services are available from Jamshedpur to Ranchi (131 km), Patna, Gaya, Calcutta (300 km) via Baharagora, Hazaribagh etc. It takes about 5-6 hours to reach Jamshedpur from Kolkata and less than 3 hours from Ranchi by road.

Private vehicles are very popular as a mode of transport within the city, though "Mini Buses" and Auto Rickshaws are available in all parts of the town. Transportation is cheap and easily available. It is recommended to avoid the dilapidated and crowded buses. Ensure fixing the fare for Auto Rickshaws before boarding.XLRI Campus is about 7 kms from the Tatanagar Railway Station and can safely be reached by auto - rickshaws or taxis round the clock at a reasonable charge of Rs. 80/- And Rs. 180/- respectively (approximate rates). XLRI is near the Jubilee Park in the Circuit House Area (East).
